Octavo, early editions, variously paginated, black cloth boards with gilt lettering and heraldic decorations to spines, blind-stamped covers, engraved illustrations, large folding map of the Battle of Antwerp in V1 of United Netherlands former owner's name on free front endpapers. The author was an American diplomat in Europe and a prolific writer of histories. Condition of these books: Covers scuffed, a couple volumes are chipped at the spine ends, interiors very good with a few spots here and there, tight, images fine. Size: Octavo (standard book size). 7-volume set (complete). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact.
