Octavo, first edition, pp. xxiii, 464, brown cloth boards with gilt lettering and elaborate pastoral scene on spine, gilt figure of a woman in an ancient dress on upper panel, 10 illustrated plates including frontispiece and hand-colored map of the weaving areas in the ancient world. In addition to cloth, covers uses of asbestos and felt, with two double-page plates illustrating hats. Condition of this book: Backstrip flaked away at its edges, boards also edge-worn, but binding is sound, no hinges are cracked. Plates protected under tissues, and the tissues are foxed, the plates have almost no foxing. Size: Octavo (standard book size). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing.
