VRANCKEN, CHARLES. Exposition Picasso, Paris: Galeries Georges Petit, 1932. Quarto, catalog for an exhibition, pp. 77 plus 32 plates in gravure, softcover rebound in maroon buckram with morocco label on spine, presentation copy printed for Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Flechtheim. (Alfred Flechtheim is listed in the back as one of the organizers of the exhibit. He was a Berlin gallerist who would be forced to flee when the Nazis seized power.) The exhibit was one of the most important Picasso shows ever put up. From Wikipedia: Art historian Michael C. Fitzgerald writes that, "displaying 225 paintings, seven sculptures, and six illustrated books, the exhibition was a blockbuster. Apart from sheer size, the show ranged across Picasso's career from 1900 to the early months of 1932." Petit, who was a linchpin of the Paris art scene for decades, was dead by the time the Picasso show was mounted. Text in French. Condition of this book: Boards lightly worn with a few marks. Leaves tight, with a few pencil marks in margins, images fine. Size: Quarto. Text is in French. Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting.
