Octavo, first hardcover edition (also released in wrappers), pp. 166, 2 (ads), 5 illustrated plates, gray cloth boards with black-stamped lettering and illustration on spine and upper board, illustrations by Theodore Hampe, various provenances including the nautical bookplate of Robert Carey Jr. on the front pastedown, a signature on the ffep, and the words "Springfield Home for Aged Women" scrawled in cursive diagonally across the title page and an interior page. The medieval romance here is supposedly based on an old manuscript belonging to a monastery in Bavaria. See BAL 1112. Condition of this book: Boards worn at edges with small loss at spine ends, discolored spots, spine sunned . Leaves clean and tight, with crack in front hinge, images fine.
