M.A. Black Cato, New York and Boston: Lee & Shepherd/Dillingham, 1873. 12mo, early printing of a book released in 1872 as part of the Little Canary Series of children's books, pp. 207, frontis and 2 title pages (one illustrated) pebbled green cloth boards with gilt-stamped lettering and illustration. Adventures of white children and an ex-slave, 22-year-old Cato; plenty of dialect to think about here. Condition of this book: Overall very good, boards lightly worn with rubbing at extremities. Name penciled on front pastedown, free front endpaper lacking, other leaves clean and tight, toning, tissue protecting title page is foxing. Size: duodecimo. Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing.
