ROSS, JOHN. Islay, London: GF Smith, 2007. Large folio, unpaginated with 16 leaves, wraps, 15 double-page images. Landscapes mostly of beaches on Islay, a Hebrides island known for whiskey production. These prints are very large, 19x25 inches or 48x64cm, done on Zen paper, which the publisher tells us is "engineered with a special surface coating which will produce the finest quality print yet retain the look and feel of an uncoated paper." The photographer writes: "It was liberating to roam the beaches and cliffs ... and the 'rockscapes' they form. They have the most perfect graphic quality. ... The cliffs and rocks were not so much raised out of the sea, but seemed as if an incredible force had literally thrown them out." The emphasis on form here is reminiscent of the work of Minor White. Condition of this book: Lacks slipcase, covers lightly worn, overall very good. Size: Large Folio (bigger than A3). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo. Category: Photography; Scotland; Modern; Art & Design. Pictures of this item not already displayed here available upon request.
