MATHES, W. MICHAEL. Mexico on Stone, Lithography in Mexico 1826-1900, San Francisco: The Book Club of California, 1984. Near fine ( a few scuff marks) Large quarto, edition of 550 copies, pp. 68, 1 (notes), brown and black printed boards quarter-bound in beige cloth, 8 color plates, two folding plates, black-and-white plates. The author says this is the most complete work dealing with this important period in illustration, when lithography exploded as a Mexican art. He omits those who were not printing in Mexico, even if they were treating Mexican subjects; thus Carl Nebel and Frederick Catherwood are not included. He lists all key lithographers and printers in 19th-century Mexico, dividing them into groups based on where they worked. This is an essential bibliographic reference but also pleasurable just to read. Size: Quarto. 68. Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo. Category: Art & Design; Mexico; 19th century; Antiquarian & Rare. Pictures of this item not already displayed here available upon request. Inventory No: 50795.
