Chronicle, 1996, Hardcover (Original Cloth), Book Condition: Fine, Dust Jacket Condition: Fine, First
CONNER, KEVIN, and HEIMERDINGER, DEBRA. Horace Bristol, An American View, San Francisco: Chronicle, 1996. Quarto, first edition, pp. 144, black cloth boards, blind-stamped, duotones of Bristol's key works. The authors give short introductory essays to each chapter, the bulk of which is made up of Bristol's photos. Bristol was of the Mydans-Lange generation and worked for Life, and he is largely forgotten, although his images are not. He worked with Steinbeck on a project among farmworkers in California's Central Valley while Steinbeck was planning "The Grapes of Wrath." Steinbeck declined to inform Bristol of the impending book, and thus Bristol thought they were there for magazine work. It's a bizarre footnote to both men's careers, and the kind of fascinating detail that makes this book terrific. Condition of this book: Dust jacket shows light wear, chip at fore corner. Leaves clean and tight. Size: Quarto. 144. Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: 1-2 kilos. Category: Photography; United States; 1990s; History. ISBN: 0811812626. ISBN/EAN: 9780811812627.
