Octavo, Volume 2 of a 2-book Shunga series that also included The Gifted Venus, pp. 9, 2, 27 painting reproductions (most double-p.), 8 (Japanese text). Cloth boards, illustrated cardboard slipcase. First nine pages are a translation in English of the original Japanese text that went with the Utamaro paintings, which illustrate the bawdy Asian tale we know as "The Merry Drinkers." Then come the paintings, then the Japanese text. The English translation, by the Australian Peter Dale, is graphic and sometimes crude, in keeping with the tone of The Merry Drinkers.
