First expanded edition, rebound in full leather with gilt stamped lettering on spine with gilt rule, new end papers, original title page, (vi), 307 pages. Covers scuffed with light wear, light foxing on original end papers, title page is toned and has been repaired due to a tear along fore edge and some chipping, remnants of scotch tape, and oval red stamp with a number written in the middle on title page (cannot read the printing so not sure exactly what the stamp is for, but there are no other indications that it might have been an ex-library book), interior pages moderately toned,some chipping or nicks to several pages at the fore edges which do not affect the text. Chapters cover the relation of master and slave, political results of the slave-holding system, economical results of the slave-holding system, personal results of the slave-holding system, and the legal basis of the slave-holding system.
