As a young policeman in the 1940s & 1950s, Don Stewart knew there was more to life than trudging the beat. Encouraged by his wife Maybelle, Don studied law, graduating with a Bachelor of Laws Degree in 1960 & completing his Master of Laws in 1967. Taking advantage of the luck & opportunity that came his way, he rose through the ranks of the legal profession, and served on the District Court Bench from 1977 to 1981. He was elevated to the NSW Supreme Court Bench in 1981. When the NSW Premier Neville Wran in conjunction with Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser decided that a Supreme Court Judge was to head up an inquiry into drug trafficking. Don was that man & under extraordinary circumstances was very quickly appointed. The Royal Commission into Drug Trafficking in 1981 led to the uncovering of the 'Mr. Asia' drug syndicate that revealed ruthless murder & organised corruption on a scale that had neverr been experienced in Australia.
