silver titles front & spine; illustrated throughout by b/w. diagrams, plus 3 fold-out complete theoretical diagrams of television receivers & 4 colour plates; "this book assumes some familiarity with radio fundamentals as well as some knowledge of algebra. In the very few instances where mathematics above an elementary level has been used to clarify a point, the corresponding calculation can be neglected without detracting from continuity or usefulness. The basic principles of television and the composition of the complex television signal are studied in Chapter 1. Chapter 2 is devoted to the transmitter and image pickup tubes. Chapter 3 treats the important problem of wave propagation and antenna. Chapters 4 and 5 explain the special wideband techniques used in television. Chapters 6 through 20 contain a thorough analysis of every stage of a receiver. Chapter 21 constitutes an application of the preceding chapters and describes complete television receivers. Chapter 22 is a detailed analysis of the problems associated with colour television, with particular emphasis on the NTSC system. Finally, Chap. 23 analyzes a complete colour receiver representative of contemporary designs. The problems and questions at the end of each chapter have been set at the same general level as the book. They are hopefully meant to help clarify thinking, give an idea of practical numerical values, and deepen understanding of the basic principles underlying television techniques."; front end-paper has been removed; no other faults; including index - 557 pages.
