pasted-on b/w. photo. of rose to front cover in a circular gilt border; To those who have charge of the ornamentation of a sanctuary there are countless possibilities for the exhibition of talents, artistic and otherwise. The Rubrics of the Church do not legislate in any special way for the inclusion of flowers as a portion of altar decoration; but custom in this as in other countries seems to have rendered the use of natural flowers a necessary corollary to the gradines which are now almost inseparable from modern altars. Vestments of varying colours distinguish the seasons and feasts of the year, but that should be no reason for flowers of sometimes incongruous hues finding a place on our altars; therefore the author of this volume has chiefly confined himself to the cultivation of white flowers. Some may deem this too arbitrary, but it at least has made for simplicity in treatment of his subject, and may lead to the cultivation of flowers hitherto unknown to the convent garden, and be helpful to all who have a desire for the floral decoration of the altar. The directions given must prove to careful followers the worth of the advice of an experienced mentor. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 107 pages. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact.
