blue end-papers with a design in green from a metalworker's pattern book circa 1785; 21 page introduction & bibliography illustrated by 144 fell page plates with facing descriptions; The Victoria and Albert Museum's collection of furniture, one of the most famous in the world, is particularly strong in examples from the Georgian period. Many notable pieces have been bought over the last twenty years and this new, enlarged edition of a picture book first published in 1947 (second edition 1958), provides a lavish survey of the collection. It has been prepared so as to give alternatives of equal quality to some of the fine examples that have already been described and illustrated in the well-known series of picture books published over the last few years. This survey also includes period rooms and discusses interiors and furniture of Osterley Park, which is in the curatorship of the Museum's Department of Furniture and Woodwork. The book has been re-designed with the addition of five colour plates, and the text largely re-written: incorporation of new research makes this survey an indispensable guide to English furniture in the Museum from the Early Georgian to the Regency period. The first edition was the work of Mr Ralph Edwards, formerly Keeper of the Department of Woodwork; this edition has been prepared by Mr Desmond Fitz-Gerald, Assistant Keeper in the Department of Furniture and Woodwork, Revised Edition.
