Authors inscription on the title page reads: To Charles with love and thanks for all your help always, Jennifer - 2006". The Charles referred to was the British glaciologist & polar specialist Charles Swithinbank who had worked in both polar regions and gave advice to Jennifer before her Pole to Pole flight which may well have contributed to her survival after her helicopter crashed in the Antarctic. The book is also signed by her co-pilot Colin Bodill. One hundred years after the Wright brothers leant wings to the human race, a grandmother turns her back on painting pictures and planting roses to tackle one of the last great unconquered aviation challenges on earth. Jennifer Murray rekindles the spirits of Amy Johnson and Amelia Earhart as she tells the inspirational story of her extraordinary attempt to circle the globe, pole to pole, by helicopter. Murray and her co-pilot are returning from the successful leg to the South Pole when, in a haunting echo of the fate that befell Scott and his polar party in 1912, her attempt comes to grief in a sudden and disorienting Antarctic whiteout. A compelling book, rich with lessons in humility and courage and serving as evidence that age is no anchor when the human spirit chooses to soar. Size: Octavo (standard book size). 198 pages.
