This book was written by a lecturer at Sydney University of Old Testament Language and Literature and found that he and his students did not have a source of information on the Jewish settlement of Palestine between the sixth and 10th century B. C. and they needed a "... concordance of ideas, without to comment. The sources said the sort of study are threefold: first of all the relevant parts of the Old Testament, and then, of far inferior value, archaeological evidence such as it is, and allusions in the records of other peoples.
