V, 6-40 pages, list of illustrations. The text is illustrated with six black-and-white photographs and numerous black-and-white line drawings throughout the text. Illustrated card covers with red and white titles. Rubbing and creasing to the book corners and rubbing to the other book edges. The white of the card has become yellow, stained and shows handling marks. Rubbing along the spine area. Browning and staining to the internal text. There is no publication date that I can find, but given the illustrations and general feel of the book, I would suggest the book was published in the 1930s. Original bookseller's stamp to the lower edge of the title page. Some blue ink scribble to the front panel. An attempt by an archaeologist, Australian, to give a scientific explanation of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah in the Old Testament. The theory being that Sodom and Gomorrah were situated on top of a large oil basin and that a earthquake created an increasing amount of pressure on this basin, causing an explosion of oil and gas on either side of the cities, thereby their ultimate destruction.
