Illustrated endpapers, both different, front endpaper: principal routes taken by sea explorers, rear endpaper: principal routes taken by land explorers. Black and white photographic frontispiece, showing Cape Leeuwin, Western Australian. There are black and white photographs and illustrations, within the text. Red coloured boards with silver writing on spine. Red to top edge. Minor rubbing to the corners and slight bumping to the head and heel of spine. Cloth has faded somewhat along the top panel edges. Heavy foxing to other paper edges which has extended into the internal pages, particularly noticeable on endpapers. Previous owners name on the ffep. Photographic dustwrapper, showing photograph of the Murray River, with pale red overlay wash, with black running on front panel and spine. Dustwrapper is very rubbed and faded. Corners are chipped, particularly the top two. Chipping has also occurred to the top edge of the spine, with some tears as well. Back panel has some rubbing marks and foxing has occurred and particularly noticeable on the verso of the dustwrapper. This book is an overview of the discovery and exploration of Australia.
