Heavy folios, complete edition (it was also issued in 60 parts by subscription), pp. iv, 488; iv, 460; iv, 491, half-bound in black morocco over brown morocco with gilt lettering, rules and devices to spines, five raised bands, gilt castle and lettering stamped on front covers, all edges gilt, 63 illustrated plates plus extensive illustrations in text by various artists. BAL 19754, notes that various styles of binding were available to subscribers, but this set was an entirely separate issue. Condition of these books: Sturdy bindings, clean, tight, covers blemished with peeled leather, moderate wear at extremities, a few loose tissue guards, scattered minor foxing. Size: Large Folio (bigger than A3). 3-volume set (complete). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting.
