Sonnets From the Portuguese, New York: Putnam's, 1902. 12mo, unpaginated with 44 sonnets facing decoration plates, beveled vellum boards with gilt lettering and floral decoration on spine and front, all edges gilt. Designed by Margaret Armstrong with her initials on the front, decorations by Armstrong (although the frontispiece is by a different artist), in her characteristic art nouveau style. A scarce and beautiful presentation of Browning's love sonnets, by one of America's premier book designers. Condition of this book: Vellum darkened, lightly edge-worn, spine sunned with wear at ends, a couple hinge cracks inside, overall good. Size: 12mo. Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing.
