Universitas, 1954, Hardcover (Half Cloth), Book Condition: Good Condition, Dust Jacket Condition: Good, First Edition
Various authors. Jerusalem, The Saga of the Holy City, Jerusalem: The Universitas Publishers, 1954. Square folio, copy No. 156 of an edition of unspecified limits, pp. 76, 25 plates, fold-outs, two folding maps, half-bound in yellow cloth with a red morocco label to spine, gift inscription on limitation page. Dust jacket has been laminated, and the laminate has darkened and soiled. The jacket calls for 6 hand-colored plates and 2 printed in color; in fact there are two hand-colored plates here, 2 color maps tucked into the back cover, and all the rest are either black and white or tritone. The two hand-colored plates are tipped in. You might say the lamination of the dust jacket was a criminal act, but it probably saved a rare jacket from destruction. Text covers history, geography and architecture, with high-quality reproduction of old maps and views that would be unobtainable in their original prints. Condition of this book: Good and sound; boards discolored, edges dampstained. Both pastedowns are browned in spots, plates are fine, bright. Special Limited Edition, first issue in this format. Size: Large Folio (bigger than A3). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: 1-2 kilos. Category: Architecture; Israel; Religion & Theology.
