Burton Club, Hardcover (Original Cloth), Book Condition: Good Condition, Dust Jacket Condition: No Dust Jacket, Early Edition
BURTON, RICHARD F. [translator]. A Thousand Nights and a Night, 17 volumes, no place: Burton Club, no date. Tall octavos, set No. 589 of the Bagdad edition, gray cloth boards with paper labels to spines, top edges gilt, other edges untrimmed, illustrated plates. Norman Penzer's Burton bibliography says the Burton Club was actually a Boston publisher unwilling to take responsibility for the racy content of the book (p. 126). He had purchased electrotype copies of the original printing plates from the first-edition publisher, another anonymous hero. The present set was published around 1905 or later, when Mr. Burton Club started naming editions after cities. Very heavy; ships in 2 packages. Condition of these books: Good to very good; a couple have stains on the covers, occasional tears in the joints. The spines are supposed to be gray but they are sunned. Internally clean; some of the tissue guards are creased or torn. Size: Octavo (standard book size). 17-volume set (complete). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing.
