GARRETSON, JAMES E. A System of Oral Surgery, Philadelphia: Lippincott, 1881. Large, heavy octavo, third edition, pp. 916, full sheep, 9 illustrated plates plus extensive illustration in text with woodcuts and engravings. See Allibone Supplement p. 652, which says the first edition was printed in 1869, while the author was a lecturer on oral surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. Collectors of nightmarish deformities will find a lot to like here. Eventually 5 editions of this book came out, the last in 1890. The author was appointed dean of the Philadelphia Dental College in 1879 and wrote elsewhere under the pseudonym of John Darby. Condition of this book: Boards heavily worn with losses at spine ends and a crack in the spine. Leaves clean and tight, no foxing, images fine. Size: Octavo (standard book size). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing.
