[Fashion history.] Peterson's Magazine, Philadelphia, January-December 1872. 12 monthly issues bound, quarto, pp. 451, 9 hand-colored, fold-out fashion plates (lacking plates for May, August and December, February's is loose but present), half morocco mottled boards with gilt lettering on spine. With Godey's, Peterson's was one of the most important means by which Paris fashion was communicated to (inflicted on?) America. Peterson's refused to Americanize its presentation, calling its fashion plates Les Modes Parisiennes. Condition of this book: Boards worn but sound. Leaves clean and tight, one leaf of text missing, some color patterns damaged but the fashion plates are fine. Size: Quarto. Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing.
