WHITTEMORE, HENRY. The Past and the Present, Steam Navigation on Long Island Sound, n.p.: Providence and Stonington Steamship Co., 1893. Octavo softcover edition (there was a hardcover issued, priority is unknown to me), pp. 71, 1 (ads), light green wraps, drawings and painting reproductions of historic steamships that plied Long Island Sound. This book was released coincidental to the Providence and Stonington exhibit at the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Whittemore has little to say about the exhibit -- this is a local steamboating history and that in itself is important, as Long Island Sound was the technology's baby step toward ocean performance. OCLC locates five copies, all in the New York area. Condition of this book: Wraps lightly spotted, chip at head of spine. Leaves clean and tight. Size: Octavo (standard book size). 71, 1. Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing.
