Richard Grossinger was born in New York in 1944 and grew up in the city. After majoring in English at Amherst College and doing three years of graduate work in anthropology at the University of Michigan. After that, he taught for two years in the Department of Anthropology-Geography at the University of Maine. With fellow poet and partner, Lindy Hough, he is the editor of a series of books and journals combining literature, physical science, natural history, myth, anthropology, alchemy, science fiction and geography, entitled: 'Io-North Atlantic Books'.
